Ed and I represented our TU chapter ( www.dftu.org ) for a day of guiding young aspiring fly-fishers on Spruce creek. Once again, Wayne Harpster graciously hosted his annual “Wayne’s Coldwater Kids” event at his Evergreen Farm on Spruce Creek. Wayne’s Coldwater Kids is an event hosted by Wayne with assistance from the Penn State Fly-Fishing Program and the Pennsylvania TU Youth Committee. Each TU chapter involved, can bring up to 4 youngsters. It was a great day of instruction and fishing for the 40 kids and numerous TU Chapters on hand. Demonstrations by Joe Humphreys and Greg Hoover got the day started with a bit of fly-fishing instruction and aquatic biology, followed by 3 hours of stream time. My student Anthony and I had a blast, as did all the other instructors and students. There were a lot of excited kids, catching a lot of big fish, and just enjoying the day.
