Yellowstone - 2023

It was good to finally be back fishing in the Park after last year's flooding.  A lot of damage was done, especially to the Gardiner.  That river won't be the same for a long time.  Despite the flooding in the Lamar Valley, the streams there fished well.  Road construction over the Yellowstone and up the Lamar Canyon continues, and at least the bridge replacement over the Yellowstone will continue for the foreseeable future.  It made getting to the Lamar Valley challenging to say the least.

We also spent a couple days fishing with Paul Weamer.  He is now the head of the Yellowstone Volunteer Fly-Fishing Program.  We checked out some water looking for tagged grayling and tagged cutthroat.  No luck on the tagged grayling, but caught a few tagged cuts.  If you are fishing in the Park, please read the Regs on what to do if you catch any tagged fish!!  Also a reminder that all non-natives in the Lamar Valley should be dispatched.

Cutbows from the Lamar.  Figured if we had to kill them, rather eat them then just sink them.
